Boost your energy with essential oils
Share
Feeling sluggish in the afternoon? Having trouble staying focused? Sometimes a small change in your routine can help you feel refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of your day.
I love using essential oils as part of my daily self-care routine. Certain scents, especially citrus and mint, can feel refreshing and uplifting.
Essential oils aren't a replacement for sleep, nutrition, or movement, but they can be a simple addition to your day.
What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are concentrated aromatic compounds extracted from plants, including their flowers, leaves, peels, and other parts.
One of my favorite things about essential oils is how easy they are to incorporate into everyday routines. You don't need a complicated protocol.
Sometimes it's as simple as adding a few drops to your diffuser while you work.
My Favorite Essential Oils for Energy and Focus
When I want something refreshing or uplifting, these are some of the oils I reach for:
- Peppermint: A cool, refreshing scent.
- Lemon: Bright and fresh. One of my favorites for a morning diffuser blend.
- Wild Orange: Sweet, cheerful, and uplifting.
- Grapefruit: A crisp citrus aroma.
- Lime: Fresh and zesty.
- Basil: A clean, herbal aroma.
- Rosemary: A strong, herbaceous scent I enjoy when concentrating.
- Cardamom: Warm, spicy, and slightly sweet.
- Eucalyptus: A crisp, cooling aroma.
- Frankincense: A grounding, woody scent.
You don't need all ten! Start with one or two scents you enjoy.
My Favorite doTERRA Blends

Rise & Shine Diffuser Blend
Wild Orange, Peppermint, and Lemon make a bright, minty blend to enjoy while you sip your morning coffee or tea.
- 3 drops Wild Orange
- 2 drops Peppermint
- 1 drop Lemon
Adjust the total number of drops to suit your diffuser’s directions.
I also enjoy using some of doTERRA's premade blends.
Motivate: An encouraging blend with a bright, minty aroma.
Citrus Bliss: A cheerful citrus blend that's lovely in a diffuser.
I like having a few different options depending on my mood and what I'm doing.
Make Your Own Essential Oil Roller Blend
Roller blends are one of my favorite ways to keep essential oils handy.
You'll need:
- Essential oils
- A carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil
- A roller bottle
- A label
Add an appropriate amount of essential oil for your dilution, fill the remaining space with carrier oil, attach the roller top, and gently mix.
Always follow the oil's label directions and use an appropriate dilution for your skin. Some citrus oils can increase sun sensitivity.
And don't forget to label your roller bottle! Otherwise, you'll end up with mystery blends.

Everyday Habits That Support Your Energy
Essential oils are just one small part of my self-care routine.
Movement: If I've been sitting too long, getting up and moving around can help me feel more awake.
Hydration: I keep water nearby throughout the day. Even mild dehydration can leave you feeling tired.
Sleep: Getting enough quality sleep makes a difference in how I feel the next day.
Taking breaks: Sometimes what I really need isn't another cup of coffee. It's a few minutes away from my screen.
None of these habits needs to be complicated. Small things you can do consistently are often the easiest to maintain.
